Lake Munmorah is located 115 km north-east of Sydney and 41 km north of Gosford. The jewel in the Central Coast’s marine environmental crown, the interconnected Budgewoi, Munmorah and Tuggerah lakes system spreads over an 80km aquatic playground just an hour’s drive north from Sydney. The lagoons are protected from the ocean by a sand peninsula and share a common ocean outfall at The Entrance. Shark free, the shallow lakes, with their gently sloping shores, offer safe, protected swimming, boating, waterskiing, canoeing and sail-boarding. There are prawns and crabs on offer and, depending on the season and conditions, anglers have the choice of targeting blackfish, bream, flathead, flounder, jewfish, mullet, tailor or tarwhine.
The town of Lake Munmorah sits on the northern shoreline and is separated from the ocean and its surf beaches by Munmorah National Park. Although the town is at the top end of the Central Coast tourist strip, the old Pacific Highway gives direct access to Munmorah’s sister resorts, theme parks and Gosford.
